paper on wall with floating bookshelf

Not only is this love at first gasp photo awesome because it’s just awesome… it also has floating bookshelves, like the ones in my tutorial. Super cool! I’m seriously tempted to recreate the book-pages-wall look in maybe the powder room in our home? Hmmm… I can’t decide which wall to do this to. It’s just so fun looking. Would require A LOT of tape and a very boring book, one not worth rereading. I hope to one day have a before & after photo showing you where I recreated this wall in my home, but today I’ll only share the idea with you. It for sure would have to be a wall where the air conditioning vent is NOT directly aimed at… LOL! That would get annoying very quickly. Can you tell I have an air conditioning vent aimed at a wall in our home, I confess, I do.

gray single bed

What a beauty! Who would’ve thought that so much gray could look so romantic! Such a sweet room. I imagine that either this is a single woman’s bedroom or possibly a guest room. Imagining that it’s the latter, wouldn’t you feel honored to stay in such a room? So precious. So cozy & homey. Wouldn’t even matter to me if the mattress was comfy or not, the room is just pretty to look at & that works for me! I’m one that, when it comes to decor, I’m willing to give up comfort for beauty. I wish I could say that about my diet… ah, that’s another topic! I’m working on that.

tom, drum end table to settee

This room is fabulous! I’d love to be in it in person. First thing I gasped about: of course, the settees. I love settees. They’re so French & girly & romantic. These two settees look a little worn, but loved – like they could tell many wonderful stories. They look like the real deal old to me too, not reproductions. That’s so classy! I own an original oldie settee and cherish it SO much.

Second thing I gasped about: the shinny tom drum being used as an end table next to the wicker settee. Oh my! Such an unexpected mix… I’m pleasantly surprised and delighted to see the two paired together. How clever. How thrifty. How “outside of the box”! This photo inspires me to be on the lookout for an old tom drum for my own home. Maybe at the local Goodwill? Or maybe in a neighbor’s trash pile? LOL – wishful thinking here.

hudson hotel library nyc

Gasp, gasp, gasp! Hudson Hotel Library in NYC. For starters… who in the world created this gigantic, shiny upside-down-bowl-looking chandelier? And how in the world did they hang it? Remarkable! Just remarkable. Truthfully, I’d be scared to stand under the thing! I’d prefer to admire it from afar. The chandelier, the books, the artwork, the wooden wall panels – all worthy of a love at first gasp! I’d love to experience this room in person one day… maybe on our next trip to NYC? No pressure, hubby – I’m only kidding. Looks crazy pricey. For now, I’ll admire it via photos. So, have you gasped yet?

large round mirror
I’ve loved this mirror for over a year now. Yes it received it’s deserved “gasp” when I first saw it & it’s been with me ever since. It’s one of those keeper images that my memory will not allow me to forget. It’s found on page 75 of a book called “Details” by Brian D. Coleman. The description in the book says: “An oversized mirrored window from a hotel was installed in this New York living room to become an instant work of art”. A work of art indeed & worthy of a love at first gasp post! This is a room that I would love to experience in person. I love how much larger the mirror is in proportion to the green sofa in front of it. I imagine that it breaks some textbook decor rules – that in my opinion, are meant to be broken anyway!

canadian house & home magazine dining room with settee

Let me begin by saying that I must have said “omg! omg! omg!” at least 10 days at first seeing this dining room. Everything about it is divine! Worthy of a “Love at First Gasp” post. Poppytalk (located in Vancover) introduced me to Canadian House & Home magazine & now I am hooked. No need to be physically in Canada to appreciate it’s decor. This photo was in Canadian House & Home’s online sample magazine under the topic: Indie Chic. Well, I guess I’m a fan of Indie then! The owners of this home are a very creative duo: Matt Carr (industrial designer) & Joyce Jo (fashion designer/retailer). I’m already a fan of their home decor taste – I imagine their other work is brilliant as well.

un-upholstered chair in living room

Ok, I’m so blown away by the un-upholstered chair in this living room. It actually took the spot of the Love at First Gasp post I had planned for this week. I just had to share this photo ASAP! I don’t know that I am this bold to leave a chair un-upholstered in my home. Folks, this photo is in a printed decor book: “Perfect English Cottage” by Ros Byam Shaw! What in the world? I’ve always had this idea that home photos inside decor books & magazines were the finished look. In other words, they weren’t still a work in progress…

spiral staircase full of books

This is the first of many weekly posts that will be called: Love At First Gasp. Refers to items, photos, rooms, decor, furniture, accessories & such that “had me at hello” – 2nd Jerry Maguire movie reference in the history of this blog! LOL! These Love At First Gasp occurrences happen quite regularly for me. A gasp is the default reaction, but sometimes these lovely finds cause me to do a double-take, my eyes widen, mouth drops & the word “WOW” comes out of my mouth – sometimes with a bit of drool (just kidding on the droll). These Love At First Gasp finds are things that sometimes will be out of my means because of price, distance, space limitations, you get the idea, but a girl can always dream!
