I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything… here’s the latest in the furniture category. Remember that old un-upholstered chair in one of my “Love at First Gasp” posts? (click here to see it) Well, I found one almost like it on Craigslist recently for just $5. Yup! The ad said my chair is from the 1920’s. You can see the inspiration “Love at First Gasp” photo on the left below and my fantastic new find on the right. This is me making lemonade out of lemons – a tight budget is always more challenging, but THAT much more fun.
Read MoreGo easy on me now… My living room is somewhat incomplete. It does works for the time being. I can smile about that. Check out the inspiration photo (bottom left). Gorgeous, isn’t it? First time I ever saw a file cabinet look so great in a living room. It gave me the courage to bring our file cabinet out of hiding – it was cooped up in our closet. I placed it next to our lovely couch, added a little tray on top along with some accessories (books, of course) and voila! Now I have better access to organizing our files as well as a place to put a coffee mug. Great way to give an object more purpose. Not that storing manila folders isn’t significant… now this cabinet looks good doing it AND can help keep sticky coffee from staining my white couch (it’s slipcover – I can wash it, don’t worry)! I’m actually motivated to file away our bills now instead of just putting them in a neat pile one day & a messy pile the next.
Read MoreOk, I’m so blown away by the un-upholstered chair in this living room. It actually took the spot of the Love at First Gasp post I had planned for this week. I just had to share this photo ASAP! I don’t know that I am this bold to leave a chair un-upholstered in my home. Folks, this photo is in a printed decor book: “Perfect English Cottage” by Ros Byam Shaw! What in the world? I’ve always had this idea that home photos inside decor books & magazines were the finished look. In other words, they weren’t still a work in progress…
Read MoreLOL! No, I didn’t burn them. If you remember, I had books in my fireplace for decor. Today, in this not-so-hot Florida weather my fireplace actually has fire in it. Do you like? This is worth posting about because we only get to do this about once a year here in normally crazy-hot South Florida. This is not your typical Florida photo folks. Most people think: Florida & they picture the beach or palm trees or Disney World, Sea World even NASA. I bet most don’t picture cozy fireplaces. I, myself, associate cozy fireplaces with white snowy mountains in Colorado. Or white snowy mountains in Alaska…. basically anywhere with white snowy mountains! So, enjoy this experience with me while it lasts.
Read MoreThis post is an add-on to my wall gallery post. Below are a bunch of wall galleries that I just LOVE! Each unique & each fabulous. I don’t have a favorite… I have three favorites. They are all tied for first place in my book. And my three favorites are… drum roll please… the bottom three!!! Yay! Do you agree? The dog one is so clever with the center photo taped directly to the wall so the other frames overlap onto it & the bottom two staircase art galleries are just breathtaking! I imagine it was quite the challenge hanging those high-up frames in the two staircase galleries. I can’t get my mind around how they were hung – a ladder wouldn’t have a stable base on the staircase steps. The more I stare at, actually the three staircase photos, the more I can’t figure it out! LOL!
Read MoreWhat fabulous sky planters! SO going on my Christmas wish list – hint, hint hubby! What could be more beautiful than plants hanging upside down? Weird at first, but beautiful after a minute or two of looking at them. Real live plants too, not dried up dead bouquets that we try to save. I’m SO impressed – especially with how the dirt stays in. Designed by a clever beaver named Patrick Morris from New Zealand.
Read MoreKeep Calm & Carry On… very appropriate message for our economic time, very appropriate message for this year’s Christmas time too – at least for me, anyway. My wall tree is turning out to be a bit tougher to pull off than expected. I am brainstorming like crazy! Meme (my 3 year old) & I have had fun in our attempts so far! There will be an end result, I know for sure!
Read MoreAs in a fairy tale… “they lived happily ever after” – old things & new things, that is. These photos are not from my home, I am sad to say, but from a Soho flat. Done by Magdalena Keck Interior Design. I was google-ing south Florida interior decorators & Magdalena’s site came up – although she is not in Florida (she’s in New York) & neither is this flat, hmm, what happened there Google? One of the few sites that I actually liked out of all the ones that came up…
Read MoreThis is TOO stinkin’ cool! Similar to my new love, Charlotte Mann, with the black and white look, but different in that this is wallpaper. Artists Taylor & Wood designed this fabulous wallpaper. The bathroom photo (below left) is my favorite. I love how the frames look hand-drawn & imperfect. Who needs perfectly straight lines anyway, right?
Read MoreCicero, a Roman Philosopher from 106-43 BC once said: “A room without books is like a body without a soul.” (In case you don’t know who he is, click on his name.) I couldn’t agree more. Well said, don’t you think? Pottery Barn was my original inspiration for using books as decor. Then I began to realize that almost every decor book and magazine out there has a book somewhere in a room…
