Thank you Taco Bell for your “think outside the bun” motto – it has inspired this post! I know I shared this idea with my Manhattan ORK poster post, but I wanted to share it now with a photo. Do you like? I guess the point is that anything can be pant-hanger hung… posters, photos, art, calendars, you get the idea. This precious photo is of my mother in law, Nora, holding my hubby when he was a newborn. One of my favorite photos ever. I have it in our half bathroom / powder room for all to see. In case you’re wondering… no, there’s never any moisture in that room. It has an air conditioning vent & there is no shower or bathtub where steam would generate. If anything it’s one of the coldest rooms in our house, especially because of it’s marble floor tiles. I featured this half bathroom this past weekend in HGTV’s Rate My Space & it has just been slammed for it’s “think outside the frame” ideas… primarily it’s collage wall – which I must point out, is another great way to think outside the traditional photo frame. Click here for a link to the Rate My Space listing.

Below you can see a better photo of my “organized-clutter collage wall” – that’s the name I gave it. Click here for a link to when I first posted about this collage wall here in this blog. Our half bath is my favorite bathroom in our whole house. And it’s collage wall is also my favorite wall in our whole house. Bummer that it to get so slammed. Goes to show that you really have to know you love something even when no one else does. That’s a good & healthy thing to experience – knowing if you really love something, I mean. The HGTV’s Rate-My-Spacers that left comments on the collage wall mentioned that I should take the collage down & put the photos in orderly frames & that if I wanted to look like the inspiration photo (which you can see below) I should have printed the photos in black & white & sepia. People, people… inspiration is meant to inspire creative juices out of you, not meant to be used in an exact copy. Side note: that’s why people copyright things… copying something exact is lame, in my opinion. Rather, if you take an inspiration, mix it up with some of your own brains & can truly say that you are happy with whatever the end result is, then that is priceless! The only thing I can say to those not-so-nice HGTV Rate-My-Spacers is: beauty is in the eye of the beholder – that’s ME!

I hope you’re inspired to give your traditional photo frames a breather…. everyone needs a breather sometimes. Let’s think outside of the norm for a bit. Who knows, beauty could come of it! Happy Monday!

Awesome idea! Not only is collage fun but that appears to be quite a space saver as well. Plus you dont have to worry so much about lining up everything so perfectly. Fun!
Fern..what an spectacular feature!! thanks for showing this images
this is stunning, your work is a work of art,it makes feel home like living in a world of memories!!
Thanks Nory
Such a compliment!
What a beautiful feature. I love the idea of the pant hanger for a “frame”. Definitely thinking outside the box, taking your inspiration and using it to allow you to create something similar but individual.
Sharing photos that way in your home will make guests feel love and warmth. Very inviting and comfortable.
Great blog.
We all have our own aesthetic and we are all inspired differently by different things. I think it looks really fun – it’s a pity (for me!) that it’s in a bathroom and the mirror is above the sink – the ENTIRE wall with all your photos would be also be wicked. Well done.
Right on… I would love to cover an entire wall (floor to ceiling) one day
I like the collage wall!… what’s with the HGTV I’m-a-haters?!
Hi! Thank you for your visit on my blog today!!! your webpage is really cool, I will definitely be visiting often
Loved the hanger with the poster and love it with the photo!!! Your collage wall is awesome because it reflects you and your style. You took an idea and made it your own and that’s what matters! That’s why I enjoy your blog and look forward to your posts!!!
Love the collage wall!
LOVE the wall collage–that is brilliant! Very much outside the frame… You find the best ideas!

That photo of Nora and Esteban is practically perfect, I love it.
I love collage walls – not that I have time to do my own. Don’t worry what others think if you’re happy with it then that’s all that matters.
I have seen that idea somewhere before, but it was in a magazine shoot and not in someone’s real home. I’ve been wanting to do it, but at this point don’t have a place. (My house is under major renovation.) But this confirms that I definitely want to give it a try! There’s something masculine and casual about it that is refreshing. Good job!
