Let me begin by saying that I must have said “omg! omg! omg!” at least 10 days at first seeing this dining room. Everything about it is divine! Worthy of a “Love at First Gasp” post. Poppytalk (located in Vancover) introduced me to Canadian House & Home magazine & now I am hooked. No need to be physically in Canada to appreciate it’s decor. This photo was in Canadian House & Home’s online sample magazine under the topic: Indie Chic. Well, I guess I’m a fan of Indie then! The owners of this home are a very creative duo: Matt Carr (industrial designer) & Joyce Jo (fashion designer/retailer). I’m already a fan of their home decor taste – I imagine their other work is brilliant as well.

Ok, so the crooked, slanted wood table… how stinkin’ awesome! Must be interesting to eat off of. Maybe even takes some getting used to. Most of us have been brought up with level table surfaces. This is certainly unique. My gasp came from an accumulation of the slanted table top, the rusted metal chairs & the gorgeous navy blue tufted settee. Just a delicious combination! Very well married. My love of mustard yellow makes the patterned rug underneath it all the perfect cherry on top. This dining room just inspires me. I don’t know what will come out of it yet, but it’s so worth keeping as a reference point to look back on.

I’ve seen these metal chairs before, unfortunately not in person – in some cottage magazine. Their curves are so attractive! They remind me of the 1944 aluminum Navy chairs that are quite popular right now. Me, being the sucker for chairs. I know a gorgeous chair when I see one. Also worth pointing out… I’m delighted that there are only three metal chairs asymmetrically balancing the settee in this dining space. I expected four – two on one side & one on each end. It’s a bit of a surprise to see only three. I love being surprised with decor. Already the settee is somewhat of a surprise as most people are used to seeing chairs in a dining room, so let’s say the three chairs are a bonus surprise.

Everything about this dining room says “happy” to me. It makes me happy to look at. If you’re gasping, drooling, eyes-widening with me when looking at this dining room then I can pat myself on the back & say: Fern, mission accomplished! Matt & Joyce: a job well done! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
