Love at First Gasp #5

Gasp, gasp, gasp! Hudson Hotel Library in NYC. For starters… who in the world created this gigantic, shiny upside-down-bowl-looking chandelier? And how in the world did they hang it? Remarkable! Just remarkable. Truthfully, I’d be scared to stand under the thing! I’d prefer to admire it from afar. The chandelier, the books, the artwork, the wooden wall panels – all worthy of a love at first gasp! I’d love to experience this room in person one day… maybe on our next trip to NYC? No pressure, hubby – I’m only kidding. Looks crazy pricey. For now, I’ll admire it via photos. So, have you gasped yet?

The second thing I love about this room are the books – way up high. I still can’t figure out how one would access those. Is there a really tall ladder on wheels somewhere, like the one Belle uses in Beauty in the Beast? (Does this give you a clue to the stage my daughters are in right now? LOL! I’m making Disney references!) Again, how ARE these books accessed? I wonder if it’s through a second level. If so, I would imagine the second level would have a railing of some sort. Maybe it’s me, but I don’t see a railing in this photo. The tall ladder sure would be more romantic, but the second level (with railing) would be more practical. I guess I’ll have to find that out in person, or call the hotel to inquire. I can just picture that conversation…

Hudson Hotel Receptionist: “Thank you for calling the Hudson Hotel. How may I assist you?”
Me: “Hi. I’d like to know if I’d need to clime a crazy tall ladder in order to reach the high up books in your hotel’s library or is there access through a second floor? Your photo is making me confused.”

P.S. Sorry to be MIA again… If cloning oneself is now legal, possible AND free, sign me up! Busy, crazy days around here… in a good way. Oh, and Meme (my eldest daughter) has a birthday this weekend. I have a fun new decor idea to share with you! Stay tuned…

  1. Okay, gasping for breath here! A hotel + library? Cool idea! But here’s where I’d get stuck — I’d be in New York wanting to actually go and sightsee, but then I wouldn’t want to get out of the hotel, but instead just sit there and gaze. See the issue? :)

And thanks for the comments on my blog. Seriously, I am not lying, coolest concert ever. Glad you like them, too. And thanks for letting me know my new blog header and background were up. I had no idea! She is still working on two or three buttons for me, and then it will be done.

  2. Wow that’s an incredible room! Wouldn’t that be a great place to hang out in a snow storm?! I think I detect a railing on the right above the door. I want to know how to access those books too!!

  3. Oh I love this! There’s something about dark interiors. And I think I see the railing on the 2nd level – took me a while to work it out but I’m pretty sure it’s there!
Hope your daughter has a lovely birthday.

  4. What an amazing space. Thanks for sharing!

  5. Wow, that is the coolest library. We had an older library here in Des Moines that was very nostalgic. Although not nearly as cool as this one – it was very enjoyable to visit. They built a brand new modern one two years ago and closed that one down. It was so sad.
