Who Needs a Mouse Pad?

Out with the old rubber, cloth-top mouse pad & in with a book, literally! Why not? It’s the same idea: flat surface, cloth top… works for me! Looks much more interesting & unique to the eye. Great way to add a little color to a room, a small surprise-element even. I LOVE books – I try & use them everywhere I can as much as I can. Books give such a lived-in, cozy look. Trust me on this one! Flip through a Pottery Barn catalog… you will see a book somewhere on almost every page. Why? Because they look good! As mouse pads & as decor. I have books in every room of the house (even in the bathrooms). I’m devoting a whole category here in my blog to them (called: more books) because I love them so much. This is only my 1st posting on the topic, but there will be many more. And get this: I LOVE books & am not much of a reader… Reading takes time & I’m always on the go, life is so fast passed for me. I want to be a reader though, I do. Right now, they’re inexpensive decor to me (maybe one day I will be a reader). When we moved into our current home we sold all of our furniture because we thought it’d be fun to start all over from scratch. Well, starting all over took a long time – about 2 years. Getting from the no-furniture look to a cozy home, lived-in look took thrift store hunts, craigslist & BOOKS. I got most of my books at a local thrift store. One time I left with 71 books for $7.10!!! They were all hardcover books in excellent condition too… LOL… the cashier usually makes some kind of comment that I’ll have a busy weekend reading all those books & I just smile because I know they’re really just decor pieces to me. Ok… I’ll leave this topic here for now. Will continue more in future posts. Bottom line, I hope you get inspired to recycle an old classic or even use a new best-seller, but just try a book as a mouse pad. I think you’ll love it!

  1. What a cute idea! I love your desk, too… such a wonderful colour!

  2. When we move into our new apartment I’m going to make some of those “floating” bookshelves with books. I just have to find some big sturdy ones!

    • Oooo… FUN! Send a photo when you’re done – I can show it off here in my blog :) They’re great for storing things high up that you don’t want little ones to reach too – sounds like an issue I have, huh?

  3. Very clever and cute! I love your desk, by the way! At least, what I can see of it! :)

  4. Well it seems we’re all loving your desk, myself included! And I like the idea of using the book.

Like Pottery Barn the decorators in model homes have books on shelves, on tables…not cluttered up but just enough to give some of the “good” lived in look.

    • LOL… the suspense is killing me! I can’t wait for you guys to see my desk now :) It’ll be posted soon! Pottery Barn is GREAT! It was my 1st home-decor love… now it’s 2nd to Anthropologie :)

  5. Wow, not only is that such a cool idea, but your keyboard is so clean. It almost sparkles. I love this idea of using a book for a mousepad.

    • Thanks :) Ahhh, maybe it’s the flash. I want to get that “Clean House, Clean Planet ” book you mentioned – then everything will really sparkle! :)

  6. Wow! I am in love with your desk! Totally blows my crappy old cheap desk away. It’s so fab and chic and I’m in love with the bold green!
