Think Outside the Frame

Thank you Taco Bell for your “think outside the bun” motto – it has inspired this post! I know I shared this idea with my Manhattan ORK poster post, but I wanted to share it now with a photo. Do you like? I guess the point is that anything can be pant-hanger hung… posters, photos, art, calendars, you get the idea. This precious photo is of my mother in law, Nora, holding my hubby when he was a newborn. One of my favorite photos ever. I have it in our half bathroom / powder room for all to see. In case you’re wondering… no, there’s never any moisture in that room. It has an air conditioning vent & there is no shower or bathtub where steam would generate. If anything it’s one of the coldest rooms in our house, especially because of it’s marble floor tiles. I featured this half bathroom this past weekend in HGTV’s Rate My Space & it has just been slammed for it’s “think outside the frame” ideas… primarily it’s collage wall – which I must point out, is another great way to think outside the traditional photo frame. Click here for a link to the Rate My Space listing.

I originally bought myself a memo board with the hopes of upping organization for my Etsy shop. But when that didn’t work (because I couldn’t stand seeing mix-matched notes hanging randomly in such a small area), I had to come up with a new use for my lovely new aqua, butterfly board. I didn’t have the heart to throw it out or even give it away yet as I had just bought it.

Mom’s Scarf Recycled

The top right corner of page 31 in Emily Chalmer’s book, Flea Market Style, is why my mom’s old, yet lovely floral scarf is thumb-tacked to my bathroom window. The book is fabulous, btw. I highly recommend it. The scarf in the window ever so delicately says “Please give me some privacy”. This window, my favorite in the whole house, looks out on our sunny courtyard, which is just adorable with it’s Chicago brick, shaded overhang, linen curtains, garden (or rather, my attempt at a garden… LOL, that’s another topic)…

“Organized-Clutter” Wall Collage

Do you like what I did to my bathroom wall? It’s a colorful, organized-clutter wall collage. It’s really our 1/2 bath so I wanted whatever we did in there to be unique, unexpected, young & fun! Inspiration came from: katrinavsnature.tumblir.com. I had to leave the a/c vent exposed though, but I’m still so pleased with how it turned out. The 1/2 bath is already so cool-looking with it’s dented copper sink, bronze turtle faucet handles & stone column sink pedestal…
